Fly Fishing
For the most part, this is what it is all about! And, it is just out the front door! If you are lucky, they come as big as 30 inches! Practically guaranteed to give you all you can handle!
Golf
There are several courses within a half to one hour's drive
- Lakeland Village Golf and Country Club
Near Allyn WA., with lots of water, and scenic.
A 27 hole course, open to the public
and one of the best kept secrets around.
(Oops!)
- Alderbrook Inn Golf and Country Club
18 holes near Union on Hood Canal. Tucked away
in the woods, it is a challenging course, narrow and
somewhat hilly. Open to the public. Nice setting.
- Horseshoe Lake Golf Course
An 18 hole public course near Purdy. Again, sourrounded
by woods and somewhat easier to play.
- McCormick Woods championship course
A long and beautiful 18 hole course near
Port Orchard. Get out the big gun!
- Gold Mountain municipal course
Another long 36 hole course. The second
18, called the Olympic course has been open
for just a short time. It is said to be one of the
nicest municipal courses around. This course
is between Belfair and Bremerton.
Major Shopping Center
- The Kitsap Mall in Silverdale is the largest shopping center in the area. The mall includes most of the major department stores, and many small shops. Aside from the mall itself, there are many other stores close by, and some fine dining as well.
Other Things to do --
- Hood Canal, near Belfair
The Canal is the longest salt water inlet in the state. At the Belfair end, the water temperature sometimes reaches 80 degrees during the hot weather. There are lots of water sports available here.
- State Parks
There are two close by. Both have water access for boating and swimming.
- Hiking
Lake Cushman and Staircase provide some of the most scenic trails anywhere. This area is about an hour away and is at the edge of the Olympic rain forest.
